In 2012 my husband and I welcomed our first child. I loved getting to spend time with my son while I was on maternity leave, but those three months flew by. The next thing I knew, it was time to go back to work and the fear and anxiety of leaving my son started to set in. My heart ached and the tears flowed at the thought of leaving him. As new parents without any family nearby, I kept thinking, how could I leave my baby with someone that I had just met? How could I stop the guilt I felt about leaving him? I just wanted to be with my son, and I didn’t want to miss a moment.
After many tears, I enlisted my techie husband to find a way for me to see my son while I was working. What I didn’t realize at the time was this was not an easy task. Yes, there are other remote access cameras out there, but none offered exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a monitor that was reliable, private, and easy-to-install and operate. I also wanted a single device that I could use while at home to monitor my son when he slept, but also had all the special features of a remote access camera. I didn’t want to use two separate devices, the traditional baby monitor plus the remote access camera. The majority of what we found available was really complicated, had limited functionality, and was unreliable because they depended solely on the Internet in order to work in your home. Plus, these companies were storing your personal video feed and photos on virtual cloud servers. I didn’t like the “Big Brother is watching you” feeling I got in knowing that my video streams from within my home and photos of my child were being collected, stored somewhere, and at risk of getting hacked. Thus, ComfortCam was born.
As parents ourselves, we set out to develop a smart WiFi baby monitor that had everything parents would want and need from a monitor, and without the high price tag. A single device that could be used inside and outside the home. Our goal was simple, to make the best baby monitor that provides parents with the confidence and security they need to return to their daily lives. Fast forward to today and ComfortCam is so much more than what we had initially envisioned. Using ComfortCam certainly reduces the worry, guilt, and anxiety we have about leaving our kids, but it’s also a fun and interactive way for us to stay connected to them at all times. We love “spying” on our toddlers as they play together in their room and we often talk to them through the camera when we are running late or traveling. We also use ComfortCam to constantly monitor our youngest son throughout the night, anxiously awaiting the moment he learns to flip over in his crib.
